Europe in construction and using natural stone
UK, Germany, Turkey and Russia are the countries with highest number of hotels under construction.
Europe has currently with 1,139 hotels and 163,826 rooms under construction, at the end of February, representing a 14.9% increase year on year, according to the latest report by STR Global.
The study of STR Global considers ‘under contract’ those hotels and rooms that are under construction, in the final stages of planning or in its infancy, and excludes those unconfirmed. Thus, a distinction between the properties already with foundations being done and those found in its initial stage.
During the month of February, Europe recorded 62,885 rooms and 465 hotels under construction.
Britain leads the European list with a total of 178 hotels and 14,785 rooms ‘under contract’, followed by Germany with 44 hotels and 9,169 rooms, Turkey 8,341 rooms and 51 hotels with 7,959 rooms and Russia and 39 hotels.
Central and South America have 473 hotels and 74,668 rooms under construction at the end of February, which is 3.9% more than in the same period last year and 16.4% in the interannual rate.
In February, Central and South America recorded 33,516 rooms and 205 hotels under construction.
Brazil is the region most hotels is under construction with a total of 116 establishments and 21,269 rooms, followed by Colombia with 25 hotels and 3,433 rooms, Argentina with 1,508 rooms and 12 hotels, Chile with 1,143 rooms and 9 hotels and Panama with 1,113 rooms and seven hotels.
